Her shame often keeps her from seeking the help that she needs. It is much easier to confess to one's family a food or alcohol addiction than it is a sexual addiction. Sexual addiction isolates the addict and could result in infidelity and betrayal on a very personal level.

Because of the difficulty in coming clean to family members in regard to sexual addiction, a woman often finds herself all alone living in the shadow of her secret addiction, and missing out on the family support she so needs for recovery.
